AC Milan have signed Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali on loan from Brescia for the 2020-21 season, the club announced on Wednesday.

Milan's agreement with Brescia includes an option to make the deal permanent next summer.

"We are excited to welcome Sandro to the Rossoneri family. As a talented, young midfielder he will not only embrace the values of AC Milan but also make a significant contribution to the future success of the club," technical director Paolo Maldini said.

The deal will be worth a total of €30 million if Milan exercise their purchase option, according to Fabrizio Romano of the Guardian. Brescia could also receive a percentage of any future sale if the 20-year-old is sold by the Rossoneri.

Inter Milan also reportedly pursued the rising Italian star earlier this summer before turning their attention elsewhere in search of midfield reinforcements. The Nerazzurri are apparently considering a move for Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Tonali had one goal and seven assists in 35 appearances for a Brescia side that was relegated from Serie A last season.

He's also made three appearances for the Italian national team.
