Eusebio Di Francesco was on Saturday named as new coach of promoted Frosinone, the Serie B champions announced.

Di Francesco, 53, returns to Serie A for the first time since his sacking after just four matches in charge by Hellas Verona in September 2021.

That speedy exit came after being let go early by Sampdoria and Cagliari in previous jobs.

Those three dismissals tarnished the reputation of a coach who had built a name for himself with his style of play both in his two terms at Sassuolo and then Roma.

He guided Roma to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018, knocking out Barcelona in the last eight.

This is Frosinone's third season in Serie A and they will be counting on Di Francesco to help them survive more than one season before relegation back to the second tier of Italian football.

He has signed a contract to June 2024, with a one-year option to extend if he does help them avoid the drop.

Frosinone were guided back to the top tier by Italy's 2006 World Cup hero Fabio Grosso.
