Empoli became the 13th Serie A club to change coaches for the new season after they announced on Tuesday the arrival of Roberto D'Aversa as boss.

Italian D'Aversa returns to management with Empoli, who finished 17th out of 20 last season, after being sacked by Lecce in March for headbutting an opposition player.

The 48-year-old has also had spells in charge of Sampdoria and Parma having come through AC Milan's youth academy as a player.

"Empoli announce that it has entrusted the technical guidance of the first team to Roberto D'Aversa," they said.

"The coach has signed a contract until June 30, 2026," the three-time Serie B winners added.

Milan, Juventus and Napoli are among the other Italian top-flight clubs to have changed coaches this summer.

The new Serie A campaign begins on the weekend of August 17-18.
