Serie A named Ezio Simonelli as its new president on Friday following a vote held during a meeting of Italy's top football clubs.
Simonelli replaces Lorenzo Casini, who stepped aside after leading Serie A since 2022, after gaining the support of 14 of the division's 20 clubs.
The 66-year-old was an aide to Silvio Berlusconi and close to the deceased former Italian prime minister's right-hand-man, Adriano Galliani, who is CEO of top flight club Monza.
