Coppa Italia final delayed after fan, police officer reportedly shot outside stadium
The Coppa Italia final between Napoli and Fiorentina that was set to kick off at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Saturday was delayed for roughly 45 minutes after multiple reports suggest that multiple fans and a police officer were shot prior to the match.
The details surrounding the situation remain unclear, as various reports differ on that nature of the clashes outside the stadium.
According to the Associated Press, via FOX Soccer, the reported shooting took place in an area where Napoli fans were gathering in preparation for the match.
The status of those involved in the incident is unknown, although multiple reports suggest that one man is in serious condition.
Per the BBC, Italian police are still trying to determine if the incident was simply a result of clashes between Napoli and Fiorentina supporters, or if there was involvement from 'ultras' of local side A.S. Roma.
During the delay, Marek Hamsik could be seen discussing the events with the Napoli fans that made the trip to the capital, and it was reported that it was their decision to see the match go ahead.
