Happy Mother's Day from Mario Balotelli

There are few things more sacred in this world than the relationship between mother and child.
Early morning practices, a well-crafted note to get out of an awful field trip, or a wonderful meal are just a few of the many things moms provide.
They're also our rock. When things aren't going well, moms serve as a sounding board, an advocate for the other option. "Maybe you shouldn't spend three years in Hong Kong for no reason, son." You can't buy that advice.
Mario Balotelli remains a pariah for numerous reasons. Many don't have time for his off-field antics. Others can't stand his attitude on the pitch.
He is, however, one of the most talented athletes in the world. His story is an exceptional one.
Silvia and Francesco Balotelli adopted Mario when he was three. Silvia was a survivor of the Holocaust. Appreciating life's gifts came easy considering the things she saw as a child.
Mario was a gift. Their embrace after Balotelli's goal against Germany at Euro 2012 serves as an enduring reminder of that special relationship enjoyed by mothers and their children.

"I waited for this moment for so long and I wanted to make my mum happy," said the mercurial star. "Tonight was the most beautiful of my life."
We have our vices, our demons that constantly wage an ongoing battle with our health. Many of us also have our allies, people who go to bat for us when few others are willing.
Thanks for everything, moms.
