Report: Monaco on verge of signing Stephan El Shaarawy from AC Milan
Stephan El Shaarawy, once believed to be the next superstar of Italian football, looks to be on the verge of a move away from Serie A.
Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport Italia reports that the oft-injured, mohawk-clad attacker is on the verge of leaving AC Milan and heading to French club AS Monaco in a deal that could be worth as much as €20 million.
El Shaarawy, 22, has seen his career brought almost entirely to a standstill after he burst onto the scene with 16 goals in 2012-13, suffering through a myriad of significant injuries – primarily foot problems – that have limited him to just 24 Serie A matches over the last two seasons.
Though still young, Milan seems content to take a gamble and pocket a hefty sum for someone who may never reach the heights he did three years ago.
If he can stay healthy, though, Monaco will be signing a player more than capable of making up for the departure of winger Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco, who was signed Friday by Atletico Madrid.
