Carpi fires Giuseppe Sannino, rehires Fabrizio Castori
The coaching carousel is spinning furiously at Carpi, which on Tuesday fired Giuseppe Sannino and re-hired Fabrizio Castori as manager only a month after switching the latter for the former.
It's a dramatic move for the newly-promoted Serie A side. Carpi had replaced Castori for Sannino on Sept. 28, and within a week the club had earned its maiden win in the top flight.
But the Biancorossi have lost three of their past four league matches, dropping them to the bottom of Serie A with a league-worst 23 goals conceded. So they decided to make their second managerial change with barely a third of the season in the books.
Castori was at the helm when Carpi achieved promotion to Serie A for the first time in its 106-year history in April, capping a remarkable journey from the depths of amateur football.
"There are no adjectives that can describe this extraordinary achievement,'' Castori said at the time. ''There are just some great guys here that I've had the privilege to coach.''
He now has that privilege once again.
