Without a club since leaving Sunderland last season, French right full-back Anthony Reveillere has decided to call it a day.

"Today it's my birthday and I would like to announce my retirement as a soccer player," Reveillere wrote in an Instagram post Tuesday. "But a new life starts for me and new opportunities are coming ... Thanks for all your support during my career."

The former Napoli and Lyon defender, 35, announced his retirement on Monday.

"I stopped for lack of offers and also to stay with my children," Reveillere told Canal+ Sport, as quoted by ESPN. "I had gone to Sunderland alone, so it made me think."

During his season in the Premier League last year, the French international made 17 appearances, but failed to retain a spot with the Black Cats for the 2015-16 season.

It didn't help that a late-season injury ruled him out for one month during the 2014-15 Premier League campaign, either. Still, Reveillere steps away from the game an accomplished footballer, having earned 20 caps with the French national team in his 18-year career.
