Hellas Verona signs Emanuelson on free transfer

Former AC Milan winger Urby Emanuelson has returned to competitive football, signing with Hellas Verona on Monday.

The 29-year-old last appeared in a match in May, back when he was with Atalanta. The Bergamo outfit released him after his contract expired.

Emanuelson trained with Milan, where he played between 2011 and 2014, as he explored his options. Unlike his former teammate Kevin-Prince Boateng, who re-joined the Rossoneri following his own training stint, the Dutch midfielder opted to continue his career at last-place Verona.

"I trained with Milan, and played some friendlies with the Rossoneri, and then Verona came along. I didn't want to wait any longer, and Hellas showed immediately it had confidence in me," said Emanuelson. "Right now, I feel great. I'm just missing a bit of match fitness, but if I am called into action for the match against Juventus (on Wednesday), I will be ready."
