Move to Real Madrid, Manchester United, or Juventus, says Cavani's father
Edinson Cavani is disenchanted with the wide role he is assuming at Paris Saint-Germain, with his father suggesting that he should instead ply his trade for Real Madrid, Manchester United, or Juventus.
The Uruguayan has made no secret about his displeasure of being unceremoniously shifted to accommodate for Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the past, and perhaps should seek pastures new if he is to secure the greatest prize in European club football.
"I would like to see him playing for Real Madrid, Manchester United, or Juventus," Luis Cavani told Israeli TV station Sport 5 via ESPN FC.
"I want him to win the Champions League, but he has to play for one of the few teams who can do so," he continued. "You have to go to Barcelona, Real, or Manchester, who invest in order to be European champions. It's like with our national team - I always say that even our grandchildren won't see them winning the World Cup."
Cavani Sr. was speaking before his son's match-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Chelsea, handing Les Parisiens a vital advantage going into the round of 16 second leg at Stamford Bridge on March 6. He was adamant, however, that PSG, who has a 24-point cushion atop Ligue 1, simply does not possess the talent to go the distance in the continental competition.
"They are not quick enough or lively enough. They are a slow team. When they play in the Champions League, you can see the problems. They will win everything in France, but you have to accept that winning the Champions League will be very difficult."
Edinson's dad concedes that talk of a move is just back page babble until there's an offer on the table, but remains optimistic that a deal can be brokered.
"I can see Edi in another club. He is young, there are a lot of talks, and sometimes that leads to something.
He added: "The problem is that PSG have a striker that can only play centrally. Zlatan can't play on the wings, and therefore it is logical that they sacrifice Edi.
"As long as Zlatan is there, Edi will always play on the wings. It is obvious that he would be more useful in the centre. He is a born scorer. Even on the wing he scores 19-20 goals a season."
