Timo Werner will get another opportunity in the Premier League after joining Tottenham Hotspur on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season.
Spurs, who were looking for more attackers after Son Heung-Min departed for South Korea's Asian Cup campaign, have an option to buy the German forward in the summer. The cost of that potential transfer is €17 million, according to insider Fabrizio Romano.
"The tactics and the style - how (manager Ange Postecoglou) wants to play and how he lets the team play - for me, I felt straight away that it fits perfectly," Werner said.
The 27-year-old won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup during a two-year stay with Chelsea. Despite Werner's impressive trophy haul with the Blues, his wastefulness in front of goal drew much criticism during his time in England.
Werner's record at Chelsea
Competition | Appearances | Goals |
---|---|---|
Premier League | 56 | 10 |
FA Cup | 9 | 3 |
League Cup | 5 | 2 |
Champions League | 17 | 8 |
Chelsea paid Leipzig around €53 million for Werner in 2020.
Since starting a second spell with Leipzig in August 2022, Werner has notched 11 goals over 35 Bundesliga outings. He's started just two league matches this season.
He's represented Germany on 57 occasions, scoring 24 times. His last cap was in March 2023.
Tottenham are positioned fifth in the Premier League table, just a point adrift of fourth-place Arsenal and six points short of table-topping Liverpool. They travel to Manchester United on Sunday.
Werner will wear the No. 16 shirt at Spurs.
