Report: Davies receives 1-month driving ban in Germany for DUI
Munich police revoked the driving license of Bayern Munich defender and Canada's men's national team captain Alphonso Davies for one month for driving under the influence of alcohol, report Sebastian Stafford-Bloor, Mario Cortegana, and Joshua Kloke of The Athletic.
Davies reportedly returned a breathalyzer reading of 0.6 grams of alcohol per liter after being stopped by police early Thursday morning. In Germany, a reading of 0.5 grams is the standard legal limit, the exceeding of which is punishable by a minimum €500 fine, two demerit points, and a one-month driving ban for a first offence.
Davies was fined an undisclosed amount and received a two-point penalty but was not arrested, according to The Athletic. A friend reportedly drove the car home after the interaction with police.
The Canadian international has started in all 15 games he's played for both club and country dating back to Bayern's 9-2 Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb on Sept. 17. In that span, the German club has registered 10 wins and nine clean sheets. He's again expected to be named in the starting XI against Borussia Dortmund in Saturday's Der Klassiker.
Though he was initially called up for both legs of Canada's Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal earlier in November against Suriname, he was replaced in the 23-man squad by Sam Adekugbe as a "precautionary measure due to physical fatigue." Davies is likely to return to the fold for the semifinal against Mexico on March 20.
