Report: Bayern close to signing Davies to new contract
Bayern Munich are finalizing talks to re-sign Canadian international Alphonso Davies, sources told The Athletic's David Ornstein.
The club and player are reportedly working toward a compromise on a four-year contract that would end speculation over his future and rule out Real Madrid as a potential destination for the 24-year-old.
Bayern have been negotiating with Davies since the beginning of last year and faced the prospect of losing Davies on a free transfer this summer. As a pending free agent, he's had since New Year's Day to speak to overseas clubs without Bayern's permission.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl made a number of offers to Davies' agent and took a take-it-or-leave-it stance when negotiations appeared to hit an impasse last March.
"At some point in life, you have to say yes or no," Eberl said at the time.
Davies is currently earning around €11 million per season, according to Capology, and stands to earn a raise as he enters the prime of his career.
The Canadian full-back joined Bayern in January 2019 for a then-MLS-record fee of $13.5 million. He won the Champions League in his first full season with the Bavarians, as well as five Bundesliga titles in 218 total appearances for the club.
