The 32 teams competing in the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup in June and July will earn more than $1 billion in prize money, sources told BBC Sport's Nizaar Kinsella.

Each club will reportedly receive a participation fee and earn more by advancing from the group stage and into the knockout round.

Twelve of the 32 clubs are European and will likely gain a higher share of total revenue given their importance to the tournament and headlines they'll generate, according to Kinsella.

The European Club Association is reportedly in the process of closing the deal for 11 of those clubs, including Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Inter, Juventus, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Porto, and Red Bull Salzburg.

Real Madrid are the 12th European team but ended their membership with the ECA in 2021 to pursue a breakaway European Super League. Unlike Juventus, who were part of Madrid's initial push for a Super League, Madrid haven't reacquired membership.

FIFA will keep none of the revenue generated from the tournament and provide significant solidarity payments to non-participating teams, Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol reports.

FIFA only recently announced a $1-billion deal with the DAZN to broadcast the tournament's 63 matches globally.

The Club World Cup kicks off June 14 in Miami and runs through to the final in New Jersey on July 13.
