Report: Ronaldo set to sign new contract with Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr
Cristiano Ronaldo is set to sign a new contract with Al-Nassr that will keep him in the Saudi Pro League for at least another year, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
The deal will at least run until his expected participation at the 2026 World Cup with Portugal. Ronaldo will then have a "concrete possibility" to extend his Al-Nassr stay until June 2027, Romano reports.
Ronaldo, 40, could still decide to retire after next summer's World Cup in North America, according to Saudi publication Arriyadiyah.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner joined Al-Nassr near the end of 2022, shortly after his release from Manchester United. He signed a contract worth around €200 million per year to help Saudi Arabia's bid to become a force in world soccer.
He's since scored 74 goals and assisted 16 times in 77 Saudi Pro League appearances for Al-Nassr, but domestic success has eluded the highly decorated attacker. Al-Ittihad (twice) and Al-Hilal have won the Pro League and the same two teams have won the King's Cup since his arrival, but he did lift the Arab Club Champions Cup in August 2023.
Ronaldo finished as the Saudi Pro League's top scorer in each of the past two seasons, and racked up 14 tallies in 16 outings after joining Al-Nassr midway through the 2022-23 campaign.
His teammates in the lavishly assembled Al-Nassr squad include Sadio Mane, Aymeric Laporte, Marcelo Brozovic, and Jhon Duran.
Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer in men's international soccer with 138 goals over 221 appearances for Portugal. The former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus forward's other records include the most Champions League goals (140) and appearances (183) ever. He counts five Champions League winners' medals and seven domestic titles among his many club honors, and he won Euro 2016 with Portugal.
