Report: Mavs interested in Jrue Holiday
The Dallas Mavericks are looking to address their long-standing need for a starting-caliber point guard.
Dallas is interested in free agent Jrue Holiday as an offseason target, league sources told ESPN's Ian Begley. Holiday is set for a significant raise following a four-year extension worth $41 million that started in 2013.
The Mavericks leaned on veteran guards Deron Williams, Devin Harris, and J.J. Barea at the point this season, which predictably produced poor results.
Holiday spent the last four seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans after starting his career with the Philadelphia 76ers. He made the All-Star team in his fourth season with the Sixers before he was dealt to the Pelicans as part of Philadelphia's rebuild.
His time in New Orleans has mostly been characterized by injuries, and Holiday's been unable to recapture his All-Star form. Nevertheless, the Pelicans would like to retain Holiday - head coach Alvin Gentry called it their "No. 1 priority" for the offseason.
Holiday remains effective when he is in the lineup. The two-way guard averaged 15.4 points, 7.3 assists, and 1.5 steals while hitting 45.3 percent of his shots from the field across 67 appearances last season.
