Kings to use throwback court design for final games at Sleep Train Arena

The Kings are one of the NBA's most well-traveled franchises, having moved from Rochester to Cincinnati to Kansas City to their current home in Sacramento.

As they prepare for another move - albeit one that will take them to a different arena in the same city - the Kings will hark back to their earliest days in the California capital. With the under-construction Golden 1 Center set to open next season, the Kings will play six of their final games at Sleep Train Arena (formerly Arco Arena) on a court fashioned to look like the original 1985 design.

"The court is a near-identical recreation of the opening night at Arco Arena I - October 25, 1985 - marking the team's move to Sacramento, and the first court at Arco Arena II," the team announced in a release Wednesday.

The Kings moved to Arco II in 1988. It was renamed Power Balance Pavilion in 2011, then Sleep Train Arena in 2012.

The retro court will feature the Kings' original Sacramento logo and colors, which were used from 1985 until 1994. It'll be employed for the Kings' five remaining Friday home games as part of their #FlashbackFriday series - in which the team suits up in their throwback baby-blue uniforms - as well as the final game at Sleep Train on April 9.

"Our final season at Sleep Train Arena has been filled with opportunities to look back at our rich history," said Kings president Chris Granger. "This court is a special way to salute all of the fans, players, and coaches who have helped us build toward a proud future in Sacramento."
