Alkmaar confirms rejected Tottenham bid for Janssen
AZ Alkmaar confirmed it has rejected an offer from Tottenham Hotspur for striker Vincent Janssen.
The bid was reportedly worth €14 million (£10.7 million), but Tottenham wanted to spread the payments out over a three-year period, which the Eredivisie outfit wasn't keen on, according to The Guardian's David Hynter. The proposed fee also fell short of Alkmaar's €20-million valuation of Janssen.
"The difference between the offer and the asking price is too big. I hear a lot of rumours but nobody else has made an offer," the club's technical director, Max Huiberts, said.
Another team that's been linked with Janssen is VfL Wolfsburg.
The 22-year-old Netherlands international finished as top scorer in the Dutch top flight last term with 27 goals over just 32 starts. He worked his way up the football ladder in his homeland after being dumped by Feyenoord as a youngster, earning a €400,000 transfer to Alkmaar from second-tier Almere City only last summer.
Janssen has three years left on his contract in North Holland and his potential transfer would address Mauricio Pochettino's lack of depth in the Spurs attack beyond England mainstay Harry Kane.
