Injury ends Monaco starlet Pellegri's Azzurri hopes
Rome - Teenaged Monaco striker Pietro Pellegri has left Italy's training camp for their upcoming Nations League matches due to injury, the Italian football federation (FIGC) said Monday.
Pellegri was among the fresher faces in Roberto Mancini's squad last week when the 17-year-old player was handed his first international call-up.
But his hopes of remaining with the Azzurri this week were ended when he suffered a knock while playing for Monaco in a 3-2 French league defeat by Marseille on Sunday.
He travelled to Italy's training base in Coverciano near Florence early on Monday for a diagnosis before being allowed to fly back to the Principality.
Italy, who failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, face Poland on Friday and Portugal away on Monday.
