Sporting KC finish atop Group D after Minnesota's slipup vs. Rapids
The Colorado Rapids put in a fiesty performance to deny Minnesota United first place in Group D.
Minnesota already qualified for the round of 16 of the MLS is Back Tournament but needed a win Wednesday to supersede Sporting Kansas City as group winners.
Sporting KC - who clinched a knockout berth earlier Wednesday with a 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake - will now face one of the four best third-place finishers on July 26. Minnesota will meet the Columbus Crew on July 28.
The Rapids were eliminated after losing their first two group stage matches.
Minnesota's Ethan Finlay scored twice in the first half to cancel out Kei Kamara's opener, but Jonathan Lewis came off the bench to equalize for the Rapids.
It was Lewis' third goal as a substitute in this tournament.
