Diego Rossi contracts COVID-19 as LAFC's playoff campaign nears
Diego Rossi has returned a positive coronavirus test under a week prior to the start of Los Angeles FC's playoff campaign, the Uruguayan Football Association confirmed Wednesday.
The attacker, who won the Golden Boot and Young Player of the Year awards for the 2020 MLS regular season, was found to have contracted the disease after Uruguay's 2-0 home loss to Brazil on Tuesday.
Brian Rodriguez, Rossi's LAFC teammate, is part of La Celeste but no news was released on his condition. Alexis Rolin, a defender who plays for Rentistas in Uruguay, also received a positive result.
LAFC face the reigning MLS Cup champions, the Seattle Sounders, next Tuesday in the first round of the playoffs. Rossi hit 14 goals during the truncated regular season, helping his side reach seventh place in the Western Conference.
