Report: Jozy Altidore leaving Toronto FC

Jozy Altidore's time with Toronto FC appears to be over.

The 32-year-old striker is set to leave the football club, according to Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sports Italy, who adds the decision has been made and the termination of Altidore's contract is a work in progress.

Once the move is finalized, Altidore will become a free agent, according to Romano. TFC will reportedly have a designated player spot available and are ready for a new signing.

Altidore scored four goals in 16 games during a disappointing season for TFC, which followed a two-goal effort in 2020. Both campaigns were underwhelming for the oft-injured New Jersey product, whose performance declined in comparison to 2017 when he netted 15 goals for TFC. He ultimately helped the team win the domestic treble with the MLS Cup, Supporters' Shield, and Canadian Championship.

During his memorable 2017 season, Altidore was responsible for scoring the opening goal of the MLS Cup in the 67th minute, earning him MLS Cup MVP after TFC defeated Seattle Sounders FC 2-0.

Altidore's TFC career began in 2015 after he was acquired from Sunderland. He scored 62 regular-season goals during his time in Toronto.
