Report: Inter Miami in talks with Busquets, lining up move for Di Maria
Fresh off announcing a blockbuster deal for seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi, Major League Soccer's Inter Miami are considering signing two of the Argentine's former teammates.
The club is in talks with Sergio Busquets and targeting Angel Di Maria, sources told ESPN's Sam Marsden and Moises Llorens and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
Busquets and Di Maria are both free agents. The former announced in May he'd leave Barcelona when his contract expires June 30, while the latter said Wednesday he was ending his time at Juventus after just one season.
However, Benfica are reportedly pushing to re-sign Di Maria, who played for the Portuguese side from 2007-10 before joining Real Madrid.
Busquets and Di Maria have also reportedly drawn interest from Saudi Arabia.
Messi was Busquets' teammate at Barcelona for more than a decade, but his relationship with Di Maria runs even deeper, dating back to their time together with Argentina's under-20 side in 2005. Messi and Di Maria won the Copa America with their country in 2021 before lifting the World Cup in Qatar last winter.
Messi snubbed a reported billion-dollar offer from Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal to join Inter Miami. He also opted against a return to Barcelona, where he spent the first 17 years of his legendary career.
