Lyon's Tessmann earns USMNT call-up after withdrawals
Lyon midfielder Tanner Tessmann has been called up by Mauricio Pochettino for the United States' upcoming friendlies along with Mexico-based Brandon Vazquez and Alex Zendejas, US Soccer announced on Sunday.
Pochettino was forced into the moves after losing three players to injury for the games against Panama on Saturday and Mexico three days later.
Monaco striker Folarin Balogun, Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso and Juventus forward Tim Weah have all been withdrawn due to injuries.
The match with Panama, in Austin, Texas, will mark former Tottenham manager Pochettino's debut in charge of the USA after he was appointed to the role last month.
The 23-year-old Tessmann, who captained the USA's team at the Olympic Games in France, has previously made two appearances for the national team.
Forward Vazquez, who now plays in Liga MX for Monterrey after an impressive spell in Major League Soccer with Cincinnati, has not featured for the USA team since the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Zendejas plays for Club America in Mexico City and has previously made seven appearances for the national team.
