Estevez named Austin FC coach after stepping down as USMNT assistant
United States men's national team assistant coach Nico Estevez has departed the post to become the head coach at Austin FC of Major League Soccer, US Soccer announced on Friday.
The 44-year-old Spaniard had worked as an assistant under former US head coach Gregg Berhalter from 2019-2021 and returned to the US men's team staff this summer after being fired in June by FC Dallas after winning three and drawing five in 16 matches to start the MLS season.
"We'd like to thank Nico for all his contributions to the program," US Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker said. "He's a fantastic coach and an even better person. We wish him continued success."
The US will face Jamaica over two legs in the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-finals on November 14 at Kingston and November 18 in St. Louis, when new head coach Mauricio Pochettino guides the team in his first official competition home match.
