LSU's Mulkey: Nobody can guard 'generational player' Clark

After her LSU squad allowed Iowa's Caitlin Clark to put up 41 points in Monday night's Elite Eight elimination, Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey tipped her hat to the NCAA's all-time leading scorer.

"There's not a whole lot of strategy. You got to guard her, nobody seems to be able to guard her. … She's a generational player," Mulkey said after the 94-87 defeat, according to The Reveille's Tyler Harden. "She makes everyone around her better. That's what the great ones do."

The Tigers rarely double-teamed Clark on the perimeter, instead attempting to limit her playmaking. The guard responded by making nine threes on 20 attempts and used that leverage to exploit driving lanes against the single coverage.

LSU, the reigning national champion, predominantly used point guards Hailey Van Lith and Last-Tear Poa on Clark, both of whom struggled to stay in front of her.

"Caitlin's very skilled. She's a great player. She hit some tough shots," said Van Lith. "There's not a lot you can do with some of the shots she hit."
