Team Sweden forward Rickard Rakell was hospitalized Sunday, and did not travel with the team as it left for pre-tournament action in Washington.
Rakell stayed in a Gothenburg hospital, according to Sweden's head coach Rikard Gronborg. The nature of Rakell's illness is unknown.
"He didn't feel any better this morning, so he went back to the hospital," Gronborg told ESPN. "So far we haven't found anything."
Rakell was a late addition to the Swedish squad, replacing St. Louis Blues winger Alex Steen.
Should Sweden need to replace Rakell, it will need to happen by the Sept. 16 deadline.
Rackell, 23, notched 43 points in 72 games with the Anaheim Ducks last season.
