Who's in, who's out: The complete 2018 World Cup field
Tears of joy and agony were prominent during the final, nail-biting round of qualifiers, which completed the more than two-year journey for nations eager to secure places in the 2018 World Cup.
Wednesday brought an end to an emotional qualification stage, with Peru's victory over New Zealand completing the 32-team field that will compete in Russia next summer.
While there was jubilation among nations that will make their World Cup debuts - Iceland and Panama - and in countries that secured a spot after decades without qualifying, there was an equal, if not greater, sense of disappointment among World Cup regulars, such as Chile, Italy, and the Netherlands, which took a dip in form at the worst possible time.
