Report: AFA's administrative headquarters receives bomb threat

The Asociacion del Futbol Argentino's headquarters, located in Buenos Aires, Argentina, reportedly received a bomb threat on Monday morning.

According to TyC Sports, the bomb threat was made through a telephone call and its authorities were instructed by the Policia Federal Argentina to evacuate the building, which is located in the port neighbourhood of Tribunales.

The Policia Federal Argentina's explosives brigade apparently mounted an operation immediately after hearing of the bomb threat, and traffic was stopped so that facilities could be inspected.

The alleged bomb threat comes one day after Argentina capitulated in the final of the Copa America Centenario, falling to Chile on penalty kicks, just like the final of last year's Copa America. Lionel Messi - who missed his penalty in the shootout - suggested after the fixture that he might be ready to call time on his international career.

Furthermore, the bomb threat comes two days after FIFA announced that it will take control of the AFA and appoint a normalisation committee to run its daily affairs, and three days after Luis Segura, the AFA's president, was charged with fraudulent administration related to television broadcasting rights.

The AFA has been in disarray since the death of Julio Grondona, its former president, in 2014. Before the Copa America Centenario kicked off, Argentina's government suspended the association's presidential elections and appointed two inspectors to carry out an internal review for a period of 90 days. Damien Dupiellet, the AFA's executive secretary, threatened to pull Argentina out of the tournament.
