City sweats on further news of Aguero's apparent calf issue
Manchester City is awaiting further developments on Sergio Aguero following reports of a calf strain suffered while participating in a Sunday training match at the Argentina camp.
MARCA believes the free-scoring frontman had to be replaced by Nicolas Gaitan in the exercise while he was assessed by the national team's medical staff, and the Atletico Madrid man will assume Aguero's place in the lineup on Tuesday against Paraguay if he cannot overcome the issue in time.
The photo released by Argentina's official Twitter later in the day shows the oft-injured Aguero resting up after his exertions ahead of the vital World Cup qualifier. He was snapped alongside Tottenham Hotspur's Erik Lamela, with no clear suggestion of an ailment to the striker.
If reports of Aguero's problem prove to be correct, his club manager Pep Guardiola will look at a stacked remainder of October - which shoehorns in meetings with Everton, Barcelona, Southampton, Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion - with greater trepidation. The influential Kevin De Bruyne is already absent with a thigh issue, while Vincent Kompany, Fabian Delph and Raheem Sterling have also been struggling for fitness.
Kelechi Iheanacho recently deputised for Aguero in domestic tilts due to Guardiola's first-choice attacker being retrospectively handed a three-match ban for aiming an elbow at West Ham United's Winston Reid, so would be a natural replacement in the starting XI.
Somewhat remarkably, Aguero has 28 goals in his last 28 Premier League outings for City, and has taken on further responsibility in the latest round of Argentina fixtures due to the groin strain that's sidelined Lionel Messi.
