Sao Paulo 'profoundly saddened' after supporter falls to death at Morumbi
A showdown between Sao Paulo and Corinthians on Sunday was overshadowed by the death of a supporter.
Bruno Pereira da Silva fell to his death after trying to jump over one of the dividers separating the stands at Morumbi. The tragedy took place during Sao Paulo's 1-1 draw versus Corinthians in the Campeonato Paulista, and the Tricolor was quick to express its sadness in a statement.
"Sao Paulo Futebol Clube is profoundly saddened by the accident involving a fan before the game against Corinthians this Sunday, at Morumbi," the statement read, as translated by the Associated Press. "The club provided immediate attention soon after the fall of the fan, who was trying to access another section of the stadium by jumping over one of the dividers separating stands. The injured fan was attended to by the medical staff hired by the club and immediately taken by ambulance to the Hospital Municipal do Campo Limpo."
Corinthians also responded to Da Silva's death, writing: "Strength to the family of the Sao Paulo fan who was injured and lost his life at Morumbi today."
