Nemanja Matic threatens to quit Serbian national team
Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic isn't pleased with the work ethic his fellow Serbia teammates have shown during international duty and has threatened to quit the team if the situation doesn't improve.
A 4-1 friendly loss to the Czech Republic on Friday seems to have been the tipping point for Matic, as he's now reconsidering his future with the national team.
"I always try to lead by example but some people don't want to see that," Matic told reporters. "The attitude of some players is unacceptable, not just on the pitch but off it too, and it was obvious from the moment we got together on Monday.
"I told our coach there is no point in me carrying on with the national team if things don't change. I'd really like to know whether some of my teammates apply the same poor working ethic at their clubs as they do in the national team most of the time."
Matic isn't alone in his criticisms: Serbia's team director, Savo Milosevic, was also vocal about some players' lack of dedication.
"I have asked for support and patience for the players in the past eight months but their lack of commitment is quite simply indefensible," he said.
Serbia crashed out of the 2016 European Championships and also missed out on the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2012 Euro Cup.
