The United States is off to the gold-medal game.

The Americans defeated the Russians on Wednesday, coming away with a 4-3 victory following a sudden-death shootout. Troy Terry sealed the win for the U.S., beating Russian netminder Ilya Samsonov three times in the shootout.

Kirill Kaprizov opened the scoring for Russia, notching his tournament-leading eighth goal, beating U.S. goaltender Tyler Parsons, who was named the player of the game for the Americans.

Colin White tied the score with 55 seconds left in the first frame, deflecting a goal line shot taken by linemate Clayton Keller.

Russia recaptured the lead 1:17 into the second frame on a goal by Denis Guryanov, before American captain Luke Kunin evened the score midway through the period, redirecting Jordan Greenway's wrist shot past Samsonov.

The United States took the lead into the second intermission after White notched his second of the game, firing a shot from the circle that beat Samsonov.

Early in the third period, Keller got a chance to build on the lead for the United States after being awarded a penalty shot, only to be denied by Samsonov.

Russia tied the score 6:04 into the third as Guryanov scored his second of the game on a breakaway goal. Guryanov was named Russia's player of the game.

The two sides battled through an exciting four-on-four overtime, but neither team got a tally, sending it to the shootout.

The United States will now go for gold and will face the winner of the semifinal match between Canada and Sweden. The gold-medal game takes place Thursday.
