Canada's HC calls out Lafreniere's effort
Canada head coach Tim Hunter criticized Alexis Lafreniere's effort in his team's blowout win over Denmark and threatened to reduce the forward's ice time.
"We showed him some video from the Denmark game. He was out there skating around like it was a free skate, lots of circles in his game," Hunter said, according to TSN's Frank Seravalli.
"I told him, 'At the start of the game, you're going to show me whether you've understood this or not. If you don't, we're going to limit your ice time.'"
Lafreniere failed to record a point in Wednesday's 14-0 drubbing of the Danes and is the only Canadian player to go pointless through their opening two contests.
The 17-year-old is the youngest member of the team and became the sixth player in history to crack Canada's world junior roster before his 18th birthday, a group that includes Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid.
Lafreniere has recorded 54 points in 31 games with the QMJHL's Rimouski Oceanic this season and notched 80 points as a rookie last year. He's eligible for the 2020 NHL entry draft.
