Sweden's preliminary-round winning streak officially hit 50 games Saturday in a 5-2 victory over Switzerland. The impressive run has spanned just under 13 years, with the team's last round-robin loss coming on Dec. 31, 2006.
Despite their remarkable early-round consistency, the Swedes have struggled to convert their wins into ultimate triumphs. Since the beginning of the streak, Sweden has won gold once (2012) while adding five silver medals and one bronze.
Led by several NHL prospects including Nils Hoglander, Philip Broberg, Samuel Fagemo, and Rasmus Sandin, Sweden will be looking to return to the podium after finishing fifth last year.
Sweden faces Kazakhstan on Monday in its third game of the tournament.
