Report: WNBA's latest season proposal includes full player salaries
The WNBA's latest proposal for the 2020 season would see players earn their full salaries, sources told ESPN's Mechelle Voepel.
The league initially proposed a 22-game season on June 4, but that plan provided players with just 60% of their salaries for a full campaign. The Women's National Basketball Players Association resisted that figure.
Players are expected to vote on the league's latest proposal over the next two days, Voepel reports, adding that an agreement could be announced as early as Monday depending on the results of the vote.
The WNBA has proposed that the upcoming campaign begin July 24 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Players, coaches, and team personnel would reportedly be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival at the venue, with tests continuing throughout the season.
Players would be able to bring their children with them to Florida, and those with at least five years of league experience would be permitted to have a "plus-one" stay with them during the regular season, according to Voepel. All players would be allowed a "plus-one" regardless of experience level once the league's semifinals begin.
Similar to the reported provision being negotiated by the NBA and National Basketball Players Association, the WNBA and WNBPA will reportedly allow players to opt out of playing the season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Players who choose not to participate won't receive their full salaries unless they're medically certified as being high-risk if they contract the virus.
