NBA's 1st all-female broadcast team calls Raptors-Nuggets

The NBA's first all-female broadcast team called Wednesday night's game between Toronto Raptors and Denver Nuggets.

The team for TSN, which carried the game, featured Kate Beirness, Amy Audibert, Kayla Grey, Meghan McPeak, and Phoenix Mercury guard Kia Nurse. Beirness and Audibert handled in-studio hosting and analyst duties, respectively. McPeak, who regularly serves as the play-by-play broadcaster for the WNBA's Washington Mystics and G League's Capital City Go-Go, stepped into the same role Wednesday while Nurse served as color commentator. Grey worked the game as a sideline reporter.

Beirness opened the broadcast with heartfelt words directed at young female viewers:

"To every young girl watching this broadcast tonight, we hope you love seeing the five of us do this. Know you can do absolutely anything, and please dream big," Beirness said.

The all-female broadcast featured some lighthearted moments, too, with Nurse paying homage to Raptors broadcaster Jack Armstrong's patented call following a rejection by OG Anunoby:

"Let me start off by shouting out the women that did the game tonight," Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry said postgame, according to The Athletic's Blake Murphy. "I heard it was incredible. ... That's a huge step in our league and our organization. Maybe they brought us the good luck that we needed."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau applauded the historic broadcast before the game:

The Raptors beat the Nuggets 135-111 to snap a nine-game losing streak.
