Sue Bird to be subject of documentary
Sue Bird is the latest athlete to receive the documentary treatment.
Bird will be the subject of "Sue Bird: In the Clutch," a documentary from Academy Award winner Alex Gibney that promises "full access" to the Seattle Storm legend, according to Variety's Matt Donnelly.
"We're excited to give this once-in-a-generation athlete the send-off she deserves," Gibney said. "It's an amazing opportunity to explore the impact of Sue and the wider WNBA - not just on the game of basketball, but on social justice, activism, and women in sports."
The film will capture Bird's gold medal run at the Tokyo Olympics, the 2022 WNBA season, her relationship with fiancee Megan Rapinoe, and more. It'll feature never-before-seen footage along with interviews with Rapinoe, Bird's teammates, Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi, NBA players, celebrities, and political leaders.
Bird, 41, recently announced she'll be putting off retirement and returning for her WNBA-record 19th season.
