Storm extend star Loyd through 2025
The Seattle Storm and star Jewell Loyd agreed to a two-year extension that will run through the 2025 season, her agent told ESPN's Andraya Carter.
Loyd will earn the super-max salary in Year 1 as part of the deal.
The 29-year-old led the WNBA with a career-best 24.6 points per contest in 37 starts this season, adding averages of 4.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and a steal while leading the team in minutes played at 35.3 per game. She was also selected to her fifth All-Star Game, for which she won the MVP award after scoring a record 31 points in the event.
Loyd edged New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart as the cumulative top scorer of the season, posting 911 total points to top Stewart, who finished with 910.
But Loyd's stellar individual campaign didn't translate to team success. Seattle, in its first year of the post-Sue Bird era, failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2015 and will finish with no more than a dozen wins in 40 regular-season contests.
