Fever's Cunningham excited to go from 'GOAT' Taurasi to 'Baby GOAT' Clark
New Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is looking forward to the transition of playing alongside one of the greatest WNBA players of all time, Diana Taurasi, to calling second-year phenom Caitlin Clark a teammate.
Cunningham told Yahoo Sports' Caroline Fenton that she's excited for the opportunity to mentor and win with Clark, whom she's nicknamed "Baby GOAT."
"I want to have a lot of fun with her," Cunningham said. "I want to win a lot of ball games. I want to win championships with her, but I also want to make sure she's good off the court as well, and so I'm hoping that she leans on me if she wants it. And I think that's why I'm so excited, is because I have been blessed to see what it looks like under the GOAT, and now you're going to the Baby GOAT."
The 28-year-old Cunningham was traded to the Fever in late January after spending the last six seasons with Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury. Taurasi, the WNBA's all-time leading scorer, announced her retirement last month.
The Fever will open the 2025 WNBA campaign on May 17 at home against the Chicago Sky.
