Canada's first gold medal of the Milan Cortina Games belongs to the King.

Mikael Kingsbury won men's dual moguls Sunday to give his country its first trip to the top of a 2026 Winter Olympic podium on Day 9 of competition.

Kingsbury already became the most decorated men's freestyle skier in Olympic history by winning silver in men's moguls earlier in the Games. This is the fifth medal and second gold of his storied career.

"I read a lot of things online about Canada being cursed at these Olympics, so I really wanted (this win)," Kingsbury told CBC Sports. " ... Maybe if I can give an uplift for my team and get that first gold medal out of the way, many more will follow, but I'm extremely proud of the way I managed my day.”

The 33-year-old served as one of Canada's flag bearers in the opening ceremonies ahead of what will likely be his final Winter Olympics.

Canada now has nine medals at the 2026 Games with three silvers and five bronzes.

Kingsbury previously won gold in men's moguls at the 2018 PyeongChang Games while racking up silvers in the same event in 2014, 2022, and 2026.

Japan's Ikuma Horishima captured silver while Matt Graham of Australia rounded out the podium with bronze.

Dual moguls was making its Olympic debut. Two competitors race down parallel moguls courses while judges also score them on turns and air.
