American moguls skiier Kloser suffers torn ACL, out of Sochi Games
United States moguls skiier Heidi Kloser will not compete in the Sochi Olympics after suffering a torn ACL in warm-ups before qualification on Thursday.
Kloser tore knee ligaments and broke her femur after crashing on Thursday night just moments before her qualifying run began.
The 21-year-old had to be helped off the mountain and taken to the medical clinic in the athletes village for evaluation.
“She’s in good hands right now,” said her father, Mike Kloser, as per Vail Daily. “But she’s so sad.”
Kloser, who is currently ranked fourth in World Cup standings, crashed in the middle portion of the course just before she was about to make the second jump.
Kloser suffered a full tear of her anterior cruciate ligament, a partial tear of her medial collateral ligament and an impact bruise to her tibial plateau in her knee, as well as an impact fracture to her femur.
Mike Kloser said that his daughter's goal right now is just to be able to walk in the Olympic Opening Ceremonies on Friday.
