England manager Southgate suffers dislocated shoulder while out for a jog
England manager Gareth Southgate revealed an unexpected injury concern in a press conference on Wednesday. Fortunately for supporters, it didn't regard any of the players.
The Three Lions' boss managed to dislocate his shoulder while out running near the team camp in Repino on his squad's day off from training, and was treated at a local hospital.
"We are lucky we have a top-class medical team around us, so it was fine," the former centre-back said. "I had brilliant help from them, and I am just sorry that I managed to ruin their day off.
"It is better this is me than one of the players. They were a bit surprised in the team meeting and were asking 'What have you been doing?' As always, they were probably quite amused.
"I'm just a bit gutted because I was on for my record 10-km time!"
Southgate's unforeseen injury comes just two days after he gave the shoulder a decent workout in celebrating Harry Kane's injury-time winner against Tunisia in his side's opening game.
So what happens in the event of more late drama in favour of his team?
"I might not be celebrating any goals as athletically in future," Southgate laughed. "The doc has made it clear that punching the air is not an option."
Southgate will hope his injury is the only concern he has going into Sunday's clash with Panama. Dele Alli's thigh issue is still being monitored.
