Report: Jack Wilshere assured of England World Cup spot
England manager Roy Hodgson said that Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere's spot on England's World Cup team is safe even if he doesn't return from an ankle injury this season, reports the Daily Mail.
Hodgson said his squad will be assessed by player performance over the past two years, and is unlikely to have any major surprises. Wilshere has been training after injuring his ankle in March, but Hodgson believes the player is simply not being rushed back to action by Arsenal, and that the midfielder will be ready to play in Brazil.
"I am not prepared to have a 100 per cent rule that you either play in the last game of the season or you don't go - I am not prepared to do that," Hodgson said.
"I have spoken to Arsene (Wenger) and they have been holding him back because they don't want to push him too early."
