Report: FIFA tells U.S. to be ready should Qatar be stripped of 2022 World Cup
Another day, another development in the fascinating - and terrifying - story surrounding the bribery scandal that reportedly helped Qatar land the 2022 World Cup.
Using the Twitter feed associated with his radio program, Jorge Ramos of ESPN reports that FIFA has advised the United States' World Cup organizing committee to be prepared in case the governing body decides to renege on their decision to award the tournament to Qatar.
He adds that a final decision on the matter will be made in either September or October.
Qatar won the right to host the tournament after FIFA convened to vote in 2010, beating out the U.S. in the final round of voting by a total of 14-8.
The decision - and country - has come under intense scrutiny seemingly since day one, with incriminating reports over worker safety casting a black eye over the bid well before the recent claims of corruption and bribery came to light.
