President of U.S. Soccer denies report of FIFA approach over 2022 World Cup
Well then, that didn't take very long.
Within an hour of ESPN's Jorge Ramos reporting that FIFA had reached out to the United States' World Cup organizing committee and told them to be on standby should Qatar be stripped of the 2022 tournament, the president of U.S. Soccer was reached for comment.
He categorically denied the report.
Sunil Gulati, flatly denied FIFA has approached them re: '22 WC. "They haven't asked us and I cannot imagine it happening anytime soon."

Literally just spoke to Gulati, who was completely surprised by report. "Simply not true," he told @nytimes.

Either somebody's source was well off the mark, or we were all very blatantly lied to.
There is, of course, still a chance that Qatar's right to host the 2022 World Cup could be revoked, but at the moment, it seems any reports of the United States' involvement is premature.
