Match referee Pedro Proenca wasted no time in showing Cameroon midfielder Alex Song a red card for his senseless foul on Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic five minutes before halftime.
Video showed the Barcelona midfielder running up the field with Mandzukic during a Croatian counter-attack. The Croatian striker looked to have slowed down in front of him, resulting in Song taking a swing with his elbow/forearm and connecting with Mandzukic's back.
Mandzukic collapsed to the ground immediately as the referee, who saw the entire incident, ran over to show Song a straight red card.
Such a bizarre and foolish decision from Song with his side trailing 1-0.
