Argentina confirm Sergio Aguero will not play Tuesday against Switzerland
The news is in regarding the fitness of Sergio Aguero, and it will not bring a smile to the faces of Argentine fans.
Team doctor Daniel Martinez confirmed Thursday that the striker suffered a muscle injury - reported to be a thigh problem - against Nigeria, and will not play in Tuesday's Round of 16 match against Switzerland.
The striker was substituted in the first half of the 3-2 victory over the Super Eagles, but was able to leave the pitch under his own power and without a visible limp, which left some room for optimism. Clearly, that optimism was unfounded.
Aguero, yet to score in the tournament, enduring a difficult season with Manchester City that saw him spend much of the campaign on the sidelines with various ailments.
Despite the bad news, the team did note that Aguero has not been ruled out for the entire tournament (assuming they defeat the Swiss), as some reports earlier in the day had suggested.
