José Mourinho defends David Luiz following Brazil's 7-1 loss to Germany
David Luiz's first match captaining Brazil couldn't have gone any worse.
Leading a back line that conceded seven times, including four in a six-minute span, the Sideshow Bob lookalike was caught out of position on a number of Germany's goals and faced intense criticism after the final whistle.
One person who isn't criticizing David Luiz, however, is Jose Mourinho, who is losing his star defender after Chelsea recently sold him to Paris Saint-Germain for an estimated £50 million.
"I don't think it is fair to separate a player from the team, because the team was very bad," said Mourinho after Brazil's 7-1 loss.
"[Did] David make mistakes? Yes, he did, but Dante made mistakes, Marcelo made mistakes, Fernandinho made mistakes, the team as a team made mistakes.
"I think everyone who is a player, everyone who is a coach, everyone who is not involved int he World Cup - we are feeling really, really sorry for them.
"In 50 years' time, kids will [still] know that Brazil lost at home 1-7 to Germany."
Mourinho is acting as a global football ambassador for Yahoo! throughout the World Cup.
